Larry Michael
Larry's photographic work has taken him from the tundras of Alaska to the rainforests of Central America and has included extensive work in the Midwest. His photography concentrates on producing images that seek to abstract a scene or subject into its essence and communicate that to the viewer. He is a master in the sequencing of transparencies into a new body of vision that exceeds the sum of its parts. He has taught photography in workshop situations for years. Larry has received numerous awards and acceptances including a first place in the BBC Photographer of the Year Competition. Showings have been worldwide, including the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Natural History Museum London and Fuji Film corporate offices. He is co-founder and Director of North American Photography Workshops. On Photography . . . It is my primary creative outlet and I photograph to share my experiences in the outdoor world. A photographer essentially paints with light and the outside world is a vast symphony of light and colors. It can surprise our senses and trigger our imagination with combinations of angles, colors, lines, shapes, forms, and textures. The natural world provides a journey of endless possibilities and infinite designs in which our personal threads of physical, emotional, and spiritual can intertwine. When I allow myself quiet time and space to really see, I am filled with wonder at the mystery, perfection, and beauty in nature. When I communicate my feelings through photography I am sharing these gifts and blessings with others and we join together in celebration. We come to know our connection and place in the natural world. Our artistic work reflects that which
is unique to us as individuals. The outside world mirrors an inside world
. . . if I see peace and tranquillity in the landscape, it shows me those
places in side of myself. © Larry Michael |
